Data cleaning and accuracy
Billing data arrives imperfect. The same company appears twice because it pays through two processors. An invoice was raised and should never have counted. A subscription stayed active in the billing system for three months after the customer actually left. Every one of those distorts a metric, and none of them announce themselves.
ChartMogul treats those as things you correct rather than things you live with.
Invoice and line-item editing. You can edit, add, or disable invoices, invoice line items, transactions, and subscription events, in bulk where needed. Records you change manually carry an update history, so a corrected figure can be traced back later rather than becoming folklore.
Merging customers and connecting subscriptions. Duplicates merge manually, through the API, or automatically. Duplicate detection matches on company name, domain, external ID, email, primary contact email, or custom attributes, and can match one field against another. Connect Subscriptions links a customer's subscriptions across a billing-system switch so the history reads as one continuous relationship instead of a cancellation followed by a new signup.
Advanced data settings. Churn recognition is configurable: when the billing system marks a subscription canceled, at the end of the final paid service period, or as soon as the customer schedules cancellation. Past-due subscriptions can auto-churn after a delinquency window you set, rather than contributing to MRR indefinitely because nobody cancelled them manually. Invoice handling is configurable too, so a new subscriber can count when the first invoice is issued, partially paid, or fully paid, and you can exclude invoices that were voided, fully refunded, or written off.
These are policy decisions rather than defects, and whether you can set them determines whether your reported numbers match how your business actually bills. Baremetrics publishes an Edit MRR adjustment for changing how a subscription is represented. We found no published equivalent for invoice-level editing, customer merging, or churn-recognition settings.
Data access
Accurate metrics are worth more when other systems can use them.
HubSpot. ChartMogul imports from HubSpot and exports back to it. The matching behaviour is where the two products separate. Baremetrics matches existing HubSpot contacts by the email address on the Stripe customer, and its own documentation notes that a customer whose Stripe email does not match a HubSpot contact will not sync automatically. In practice the person paying the invoice is often a finance mailbox while your sales team talks to someone else entirely, so records go unmatched. ChartMogul matches on company name, domain, external ID, email, primary contact email, or custom attributes, and can compare one field against another.
Data warehouses and storage. Snowflake, BigQuery, and Redshift, plus Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Google Cloud Storage. Two categories of payload travel with it: calculated data such as MRR movements, CMRR movements, and MRR intervals, and source data including invoices, transactions, subscription events, and plans. Your warehouse receives normalized billing records rather than an export of finished charts. Baremetrics' own ChartMogul comparison page lists API and Zapier against this.
MCP. Both products have an MCP server. ChartMogul's is remote, authenticates with OAuth, and installs from Claude's connector directory and OpenAI's plugin directory, so it works from an assistant running in a browser. Baremetrics' documentation states that desktop clients are currently the only ones supported, and that web-based clients such as Claude.ai in the browser are not yet supported.
AI assistant and email context
ChartMogul AI answers questions against your revenue data in the app, and the MCP server exposes the same data to whichever assistant you already use.
The more interesting part is what it can see. Connect a mailbox over Gmail, Outlook, or IMAP and customer conversations are logged against the right account automatically, in near real time, with internal email excluded. ChartMogul captures that correspondence alongside each account's billing history, so an account view holds both what a customer pays and what they have been saying.
ChartMogul also includes CRM objects such as contacts, opportunities, and tasks at no extra cost, which is useful if you want pipeline tracking built on subscription data. Most teams evaluating analytics already run a CRM and will not want to move it, so treat that as a bonus rather than a reason to switch. Baremetrics publishes no AI assistant and no mailbox connectivity.
Support
Every paying ChartMogul customer can have a dedicated Slack channel with our team. Unlimited training sessions are included too.
Switching from Baremetrics to ChartMogul
Your history lives in your billing systems rather than in Baremetrics, so there is no export and re-import step. Connect Stripe, Chargebee, or whatever you bill through, and ChartMogul imports the existing data and computes metrics from source.
One practical step makes the transition much calmer. Export an MRR-per-customer list from Baremetrics before you start, then compare it against the same list in ChartMogul during onboarding. Any differences show up immediately and will cluster around churn timing, duplicate customers, and invoice handling rules rather than appearing at random, which makes them quick to reconcile deliberately instead of discovering them mid-quarter.
You can run that comparison before committing. ChartMogul is free up to $10K MRR, and above that there is a 14-day trial with your own billing sources connected.
Which one should you choose?
Choose Baremetrics if failed-payment recovery or cancel-flow retention is the problem in front of you. Recover and Cancellation Insights are real products and ChartMogul has no equivalent.
Choose ChartMogul if you need to control how the metrics are calculated, if duplicate customers and billing-system migrations are part of your reality, or if the numbers have to reach HubSpot, a warehouse, or a browser-based AI assistant in a form other systems can use.
Pricing
Both vendors scale pricing with revenue, and ChartMogul is free up to $10K MRR while Baremetrics has no free tier.
Beyond that, a like-for-like comparison is harder than it looks, and not only because plans change. Baremetrics quotes different plan names and entry prices on its pricing page than on its own ChartMogul comparison page. Get a current quote from both for your revenue and billing setup, and compare what each includes rather than the headline number. Figures on this page were checked in September 2026.
